Handwritten prayer book for Anna Catharina Reuters. German manuscript on paper. (Sternberg, 1796). 19,5 x 12,6 cm. Contains 11 mounted copper engravings depicting saints. 135 leaves. The text area (approx. 15 x 9.7 cm) is bordered throughout by a double border in brown ink. Calligraphic chapter headings. Calfskin, bound in 5 bands with gold-embossed ornamental borders on the cover, corner fleurons, rich gilding on the spine, and borders along the edges and inner edges. Full gold edging. Endpapers of brocade paper.

A prayer book, carefully and elaborately produced, evidently made to order, in a fine binding. - The prayer book bears the title ‘The Essence of All Prayers, or Devotional Prayer Book, containing the most powerful prayers for morning and evening Mass, confession and communion, to the sweet name of Jesus, to the Mother of God, and to Joseph, Nepomuceno and Xaverio’. A sheet, also in calligraphy, bound in before the title page provides information about the owner: ‘This book belongs to Miss Anna Catharina Reuters of Mohlachburg, residing in Maria Ablaß in Stern-Berg’. On the same sheet, the illustrator J. J. W. Weiler is credited (‘Weiler fecit’).
