A scholarly edition of Tatar texts based on the original plates held in the Phonetic Department of the Berlin State Library. An interesting publication in the field of Turkology and linguistics, which is now rarely available. – Gotthold Weil (1882–1960) was an Orientalist and librarian. After working as a Turkologist in Berlin, he headed the Oriental Department of the Berlin State Library. From 1931 to 1934, he was Professor of Oriental Studies at the University of Frankfurt am Main. In 1935, he emigrated to Palestine, where he directed the National Library at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem until 1946.
