(Worn and stained, one clasp missing. Endpapers with wormholes. Front endpaper bearing an ex-libris; title page with a handwritten owner’s note and a stamp from the library of the Capuchin monastery in Eichstätt. Title page and first leaf with a small brown stain. Minor signs of age. Dog-eared in places.)

Pépin was a Parisian preacher and professor of theology, known for his rhetorical brilliance, keen powers of observation and fearless criticism of contemporary abuses within the clergy. His ‘elucidatio in confiteor’ is a systematic and profound exegesis of the Act of Confession.
