VD18 10546065. - Jean Bertrand (1713–1797), a parish priest in Orbe and a member of the Economic Society of Bern, is regarded as one of the early proponents of modern agricultural irrigation techniques in the German-speaking world. His treatise, first published in 1765 and presented here in a second, revised and substantially expanded edition, deals with the practical use of water for meadow and field cultivation, explains the construction and maintenance of irrigation systems, and discusses their impact on crop yields and soil quality.
