Morren. 33 volumes in the series (excluding volumes 18 and 19). Lüttich, "A La directon générale" 1851-1885. 23,5 - 24 x 15 - 15,5 cm. Includes 34 lithographic portraits, 577 (83 folded) color chromolithographic plates, 57 (11 folded) additional plates, and numerous woodcut illustrations. Various half-leather bindings with title and decorative elements on the spine; each of vols. 25–35 has an original dust jacket bound into it.
(Covers are partially bumped. Vol. 14 has a small defect on the spine. Signs of age and wear; paper is yellowed and has brown spots in places. In Vol. 1, eight plates have been torn out and reattached with tape. The half-title page is missing from Vol. 4. In Vol. 5, the preface from Vol. 4 has been additionally bound in; the portrait of Richard Joseph Coutois is missing, but a duplicate of the portrait of Adrien Spiegel is present. One plate has come loose from the binding. The portrait from Vol. 6 is bound in Vol. 7. One plate from Vol. 26 is bound in Vol. 32. In Vol. 27, pp. 353–368 are bound at the end.
Some plates have been trimmed, resulting in text loss; in a few cases, the trimming extends into the illustration. A few damaged plates have significant defects; one is completely torn out at the fold, and the lower edge of another is torn off. The endpaper is glued to three plates.)
Nissen BBI 2218. Stafleu-C. III, SS. 591-592. Pritzel 10699. A comprehensive and important botanical journal founded by Charles Morren. From 1855 to 1857, he served as editor alongside his son and future successor, Édouard Morren. After his father’s death in 1858, Édouard Morren continued to serve as sole editor. Both father and son were professors of botany at the University of Liège, where they also managed the botanical garden.
The journal was published in 35 volumes until 1885.
The beautiful color plates depict fruits, plants, and flowers.
