Later, whilst working as a professor at Stockholm University, Nordenskiöld made a name for himself as a polar explorer, cartographer and travel writer. In 1878–79, he became the first sailor to circumnavigate Europe and Asia, crossing the Northeast Passage in the process. – Translated from the Swedish by Mathilde Mann.
