Gay 3059. - Bericht einer engl. Forschungsreise von 1816 ins Landesinnere Afrikas. Unter der Annahme, dass der Niger und der Zaïre, oder Kongo, identisch seien, gab man hohe Summen für die Ausstattung von Schiffen aus, um diesen bis zu seiner Quelle hinaufzufahren. Zahlreiche Mitglieder der Besatzung starben an Fieber, sodass lediglich die Mündung des Flusses erkundet werden konnte.
