(Scuffed, bumped, corners cracked, scuff marks on the covers. Endpapers have a glue-stain. Handwritten ownership note “von Bibra” on the flyleaves. Inside, slight signs of age, with occasional minimal staining. Page K⁸ in Vol. I has creases caused by the printing process.)

She became known in particular for her educational writings and novels on child-rearing, as well as for her work as a governess to the children of the House of Orléans. After the outbreak of the French Revolution, she lived in exile in Germany for a time and published several works there. “Les mères rivales ou La Calomnie” is one of the author’s signature social and educational novels. It focuses on family relationships, feminine virtue, rivalry, and the destructive effects of slander.
