Doderer, LKJ III, 488. – First edition of the counterpart to the English edition of ‘Swollen-headed William’, in which Struwwelpeter also featured as part of English war propaganda. - Olszewski depicts Wilhelm II, as a warmonger, making the enemies dip into an inkwell; in the Paulinchen story, the French Mariannchen is warned against the fire by cats dressed in Austrian and German military helmets; the thumb-sucker becomes a ‘neutrality-sucker’; there is a ‘Blockade John’, the fidgety ‘Beppo’ and a ‘John Look-Up-At-The-Sky’, who falls into the water on the ‘Dardanelles beach’. - In Olszewski’s war-themed Struwwelpeter, ‘… the Entente powers were made the subject of satirical verses’ (KJL).
