(Duisburg: Steinkamp 1913). 32,2 x 24,6 cm. 16 (including the title page) full-page chromolithographic illustrations by Anton Hoffmann and Felix Schmidt, with eight-line captions in rhyme. Half-linen edition with colour-illustrated front cover.
(Somewhat scuffed and worn, with slight damp and age-related stains.)
Publisher’s number 731. – Ries 597, 20 (Hoffm.) and 853, 37 (Schmidt). – Edition on thick card, published at the same time as the paper edition. - “This cardboard edition is apparently an abridged version of the standard paper edition, which comprises 12 leaves but also contains 16 illustrations. (See catalogue by W. Geisenheyner, Cat. 93, No. 20, ‘Indoctrination and Education for War in Children’s Books’). - In addition: Die deutsche Flotte. No place, no date (c. 1900). 18 x 25.3 cm. With 12 (including the title page) chromolithographic plates without captions, bound as a leporello on sturdy card. - Featuring depictions of marines during operations at sea and on land, during manoeuvres, as well as illustrations of military equipment. On the reverse, explanatory text on the ships ‘Brandenburg’, ‘Kronprinz Wilhelm’, the high-speed steamer ‘Augusta Victoria’, ‘Fürst Bismarck’, ‘Kaiseradler’, etc.
