Raimund von Penyafort (Raymundus de Pennaforte): Summula, demu(m) revisa ac castigatissime correcta. Köln: Quentel 1508. 20,3 x 13,2 cm. 1 leaf, 148 Roman numerals, 7 unnumbered leaves (sheets: a-s⁶, t-v⁴, x-z⁶, aa-cc⁶, dd⁴). Modern leather binding on 4 bands, incorporating fragments of the original blind-stamped cover and 2 clasps.
(The title page is covered on both sides with thin Japanese paper and has been re-sewn; there is a closed hole in the top margin with letter loss on the reverse, along with a handwritten ownership notation from the Hohenbusch Order of the Holy Cross Monastery near Erkelenz and an illegible scribble in green felt-tip pen. Several leaves in the first quires show professionally repaired wormholes, some with loss of text. Leaf g⁶ has been patched following a tear. One corner of leaf i² has been repaired with Japanese paper. Throughout, there is a large, pale water stain along the top margin; in places, there are also moisture stains along the bottom margin. Contains some marginal notes and underlining.)

In dem ausdrücklich an Seelsorger gerichteten Werk werden die sieben Sakramente sowie zahlreiche für Seelsorge und Beichtpraxis relevante Rechts- und Gewissensfälle, darunter Zauberei, Simonie, Diebstahl, Raub, Wucher und Ehefragen, behandelt. Die vorliegende revidierte und korrigierte Fassung steht in der von Magister Adam bearbeiteten Überlieferung. - Raimund von Penyafort, seit 1222 Dominikaner, war einer der bedeutendsten Kanonisten des 13. Jahrhunderts und maßgeblich an der Redaktion der Dekretalen Gregors IX. beteiligt. Seine Schriften, insbesondere die ‚Summa de casibus poenitentiae‘, hatten nachhaltigen Einfluss auf die Entwicklung der kirchenrechtlichen Kasuistik und der mittelalterlichen Beichtlehren.
