First German edition of the original French edition from 1714–19. – Copies with such vivid, detailed and faithful colouring are extremely rare. – With very few exceptions, the plates often depict the traditional costumes across several plates. A few plates depict orders’ chains, and one plate shows a view of an order’s house on the Grüner Werder in Strasbourg (Vol. 3). Each volume has its own table of contents, a list of plates and a comprehensive subject and name index at the end. Vol. 1 includes an extensive list of subscribers (continued in Vol. 2), as well as a detailed bibliography of books on the history of the Order. - Featuring the bookplates of Gunnar Baron Trönnberg, who was himself Grand Master of the Order of St Lazarus, on the front covers and coat-of-arms bookplates on the back covers. A few plates bear subtle coat-of-arms stamps.
