The first edition was published in 1859. The plates depict boats, tools, bulwarks and plans for the straightening of the Lech near Herbertshofen, Meitingen and Waltershofen. It also includes a hydrographic map of the confluence of the Wertach and the Lech, and a map of the area between Ulm and Neuburg an der Donau showing the course of the Lech from Mering to its confluence with the Danube, with three elevation profiles.
