Working as an orientalist and Turkologist, Vámbéry is thought to have been in the service of the British secret service for a certain period. A fictional version of himself appears in Bram Stoker’s novel ‘Dracula’, published in 1897, as Arminius from Budapest and a friend of Abraham van Helsing.
