(Cover is stained, creased, with damage to the edges and missing sections on the spine. The spine has been provisionally secured with strips of adhesive tape. The binding is loose. The half-title page, frontispiece, title page and foreword have a large water stain. The interior is affected by foxing and has water marks in places.)
Henze V, S. 377. - Hermann Vámbéry (1832–1913), one of the most significant travellers to the Orient of the 19th century, describes in this early travelogue his journey through Persia undertaken in 1862. Armed with an excellent command of the language and often travelling under the cover of an Ottoman dervish, he provides vivid impressions of the country, its people, religion and everyday life, as well as Iran’s historical sites. - The plates include, amongst other things, a portrait of Shah Nasr-ed-din, Mejdani Square in Isfahan, the mausoleum of Mederi Szulejman, the Shah’s summer palace, and the ruins of Persepolis and Soltaniye.
