Henze V, 357ff.-The naturalist and explorer J. J. von Tschudi published numerous works on the indigenous peoples of South America and their customs. A statue he unlawfully acquired in Bolivia in 1858, the Ekeko stone figure (Pucará figurine), was returned to the National Museum of Archaeology in La Paz in 2014 following a protracted dispute. As a trained zoologist, he confined himself primarily to his field of expertise and collected large quantities of bird skins, mammal pelts, insects and shells.
