With 19 plates containing 23 illustrations and 4 aquatint illustrations, together with a printed list of plates. 1 folded map in copperplate engraving and 1 engraved plate featuring alphabets in the text volume. VIII pp., 375 pp., 3 leaves. Modern brown leather with a red spine label. Atlas with cardboard covers and a red spine label.

Cordier, Indosinica 1107, Hill 1093 (excluding the atlas). – Not listed in Abbey and Nissen. – The plates were published with the 3rd edition, 28 years after the publication of Marsden’s work, and could be purchased separately. As early as the second printing of the third edition, the plates were reduced to quarto size and incorporated into the text. This volume is a combination of the text from the first edition of 1783 and the atlas of 1811. Marsden produced the first work in the English language on this region. The four aquatint views were engraved by Joseph Stadler after designs by William Bell. Depicted are, amongst others, the pepper plant, Lanseh and Rambeh fruits, the Philippine glider, the common flying dragon, the Balabac kantschil and many others. A bookplate by ‘Lord Rivers’ on the inside cover of the text volume.
