Leather-bound, with gold-stamped title on the spine.
(Slightly worn and lightly bumped. Spine is slightly faded. The original dust jacket is not included. The title page has a handwritten ownership note in blue ink in the top margin. Pages 271/272 have a tear in the top margin. Discolored.)
EA. - Trimmed copy. - W. A. Knoche was a meteorologist, geophysicist, and cultural anthropologist. In 1911, he led a Chilean expedition to Easter Island (Rapa Nui). This account is particularly interesting because he had contact with two surviving Easter Islanders who were able to provide him with firsthand accounts of myths, dances, songs, and details of religious rituals. Knoche was thus the last person to have been in contact with representatives of the ancient Easter Island culture. - Supplement: A photograph of the subject depicted as Fig. 47, as well as a reproduction of it.
