First edition. – Huc, also known as Father Huc, was a French explorer and missionary who became world-famous for his journey across Mongolia, Tibet and China between 1844 and 1846. During his missionary work, he met the Dalai Lama in Lhasa, who agreed to allow him to establish a mission; however, before this could be done, Huc was taken out of the country by the Chinese embassy and sent to Canton, from where he returned to Europe.
