Kainbacher 207. - First edition. - Holub set himself the ambitious goal of crossing the African continent from Cape Town in a southerly direction. However, between the Zambezi and Lake Bangweulu, in the territory ruled by the Matschukulumbe, he faced massive resistance and was forced to abandon the venture. His second expedition, which took him via Victoria Falls to the Franz Josef Mountains, also ended in a forced return following an attack by Matschukulumbe warriors. Nevertheless, his collections and ethnographic observations made a significant contribution to our understanding of the indigenous peoples of South Africa. – Kainbacher has a copy in its original blue linen binding.
