A treatise by the British-Haitian ethnologist Teuria Henry on the history, geography, religion, folklore and society of Tahiti. Henry drew on the notes of her grandfather, John Muggridge Orsmond, a British missionary, whose original manuscript was lost prior to publication. From the library of Dr E. W. Mühlmann, a well-known ethnologist. Ownership stamp ‘Dr E. W. Mühlmann’ on the flyleaf and a handwritten ownership entry on the title page. Handwritten notes, presumably in his own hand, are included, along with marginalia.
