Smoothed leather in blue and black on 4 double bands with a gold-embossed spine; multi-row fillet gilding running horizontally across the spine and front cover, incorporating a subtle yin-yang symbol in the centre of the front cover, surrounded by gold-embossed capital letters of the author’s name and the title, as well as three rows of gold-embossed fillets. Top edge gilt. Half-leather slipcase.
(The spine is slightly faded. There are a few water stains and age spots. The edges of the half-title page and the rear blank page are browned on the left-hand side. At the beginning, there is a private dedication mounted on a blank flyleaf.)
No. 277 of 325 copies, printed on laid paper for the members of the Maximilian Society; the imprint is dedicated to Hans Loubier, “dem führenden Kenner und unermüdlichen Förderer der deutschen Buchkunst”. - Frontispiece bearing the handwritten signature of Georg Rody (1880–1944), the long-serving vicar and book collector from Birkesdorf, now a district of the county town of Düren. - Supplement: a print from the Mainzer Presse, also signed by Rody on the half-title page and dated 1931: Hesiods Werke und Tage, in deutscher Übertragung von Helmut von den Steinen.
