No. 253 of 300 copies of the German-language edition (a French edition was also published). - A rare catalogue of the arms collection of the Geneva architect and accomplished amateur archaeologist Charles Boissannas (1832–1912). The catalogue lists and illustrates only items found in Switzerland. Boissanna’s main interest lay in weapons from the period prior to the 16th century, in particular the so-called ‘Kriegshippen’ (axe-shaped pole weapons), of which almost all types are represented (with and without ferrules, raven’s beaks or back hooks, etc.). Also included are halberds, glefen, storm forks, pikes, korseken, partisans, battle axes, war flails, morning stars, hammers, peasant weapons, swords, daggers, etc. With detailed explanatory text.
