Indau, Johann: Wienerisches Architectur- Kunst- und Säulen-Buch, worinnen die gründliche Unterrichtung deren Fünff Säulen, sambt allen nothwendigen Zugehörungen der Architectur, dessen Manier und leichte Invention noch biß dato proportionirlicher nicht gefunden worden. Augsburg: S. Fincke für J. Wolffs Erben 1728. 38,5 x 29,5 cm. With a title page and 20 (of 21) copperplate plates, some of which are folded several times. 1 leaf, 1 unnumbered page, 5 numbered pages. Modern half-parchment with back label.
(Stained and with slight mottling. Title page with the top and bottom margins restored; wormholes, tears and missing sections professionally repaired, one letter handwritten. The title page and text leaves with the outer margins restored. Some of the plates have wormholes, tears and reinforced folds. Plate 19 has an outer margin replaced by a photocopy; approximately 3.5 cm of the original engraving is missing along its full length. Plate 21 is slightly trimmed at the top margin. Brown and dust stains in places. With a few marginal notes in pencil. The unnumbered scale plate at the end is missing; a copy of this is bound in here.)

The presentation of Italian and French architectural ideals is aimed at master builders, stonemasons, joiners and other craftspeople, who generally used the design templates directly in the building trade; as a result, the work is now extremely rare and of particular interest as a source for the history of architecture and craftsmanship.
