An anthology comprising four Catholic polemical pamphlets from the late 16th century. 19,8 x 15,5 cm. Modern calf-leather with gilded spine title.
(Minimal wear, small scratches on the covers. Edge of the book bearing the handwritten title ‘Alcoranischer Nessel Krantz’. The pages are generally slightly browned, with only the third print being slightly more so. The second and third prints show wormholes along the bottom margin. The fourth print has a handwritten addition to the author’s name in brown ink. The final pages of the second, third and fourth prints are consistently affected by waterstains along the outer margin.)
A collection of polemical writings addressing the Reformation, freedom of religion and the authority of the state in matters of religion. These texts, some of which are sharply polemical, are directed in particular against Martin Luther and Lutheran doctrine, against the exemption of religion, and against the Augsburg Confession.
1) Ecker, Georg: Ein Schöner Alcoranischer Nessel Krantz. Aus den kostlichen und übertrefflichen, nicht Tischreden, sondern Fürnemen Operibus, und Büchern des vil Seelverlürstigen, auch deßhalben Tewren Manns und außgesprungnen Mönchs Martini Lutheri. Compiled as a collection and bound in various volumes, and prefaced with the senseless ‘Alcoranic Head’ by the godless Lucas Osiander, Doctor and Court Preacher at Stuttgart, to expose his blasphemous and mendacious vapours.
