Sammelband mit vier Kölner Frühdrucken geistlicher Gebrauchsliteratur und moralisierender Schriften um 1500. 13,8 x 10,5 cm. Modern leather, made using fragments of old, blind-stamped lid covers; with an intact clasp.
(With page markers and remnants or traces of page markers. Title page of the first edition with [erased] owner’s marks and two small wormholes; folio D⁸ with a tear backed with paper at the top margin, F⁵ with a small missing section at the outer margin. With a few marginal notes, deletions and underlinings in black ink. The fourth printing has a large watermark running throughout. Tanned, with damp edges and brown stains in places.)

With 3 full-page woodcuts (repeated; 1 coloured) and 1 coloured text woodcut. 179 (of 188) unnumbered leaves (quires: Aa⁸, A⁴, B⁸, C⁴, D⁸, D⁴ [instead of E], A-L⁸, M⁴, N⁸, O⁸, P⁴, a⁸, b7, c⁸, d⁸; up to section P, collation is identical to the bibliographies cited; sections a–d are probably a variant edition; known copies contain sections a⁴, b⁴, c⁸, d⁸, e⁴, f⁴, g⁸). Voulliéme, Cologne, 404. - Fragment of the widely read collection of sermons by the enigmatic Michael of Hungary, who is thought to have been active in the 14th century. Compared with earlier editions, the Cologne edition of 1499 represents a substantial editorial revision of his famous ‘thirteen sermons for general use’. It not only provides the reader of this liturgical handbook with a methodical introduction to the work, but also offers an expanded index that considerably facilitates the search for suitable texts for the various occasions of the church year.

VD16 F 247. - According to GW, only one copy is held in public libraries. - A rare early Cologne print of Johannes Fabri’s moralising reflection on the world and humanity, in which the history of the Romans serves as a cautionary tale for the present.
3) Epistola de miseria curatorum. Cologne: Martin von Werden, ‘anno quarto’. 8 leaves (sheets: A⁴, B⁴). Headings throughout. - This edition is not listed in Voulliéme, Hain, etc. - A satirical lament on the hardship and misery of the parish clergy, presented in a folksy style.
