Frederick V (1723–1766), the only son of King Christian VI, ascended the Danish-Norwegian throne following his father’s death on 6 August 1746. The solemn anointing and coronation of the King and his consort Louise of Great Britain (1724–1751), a daughter of George II, took place on 4 September 1747 in the castle chapel at Frederiksborg, the traditional coronation church of the Danish monarchs during the absolutist era. This anthology brings together four commemorative volumes published in Leipzig in honour of the Leipzig scholar and theologian Friedrich Christian von Kragh. The eulogies, poems and academic tributes, written in Latin and German, document the ceremonial culture surrounding the change of reign and, at the same time, illustrate the close ties between the Danish royal house and the University of Leipzig.
