Sauer 428 (“Extremely rare! The definitive work on the history of Frankfurt’s people!”). - A fundamental reference work on genealogy and the history of the Imperial City of Frankfurt. Alexander Dietz (1864–1934), a Frankfurt lawyer, notary, and economic and social historian, has compiled information on around 600 prominent Frankfurt families up to the end of the Imperial City in 1806, supplementing the biographical and genealogical details with overviews of the families’ origins, occupations, elevations to the nobility, and historic trading and commercial enterprises. To this day, it remains a standard reference work for research into Frankfurt’s bourgeois, merchant and patrician families.
