See Waller 12510 (new edition 1719 + ‘De Rhapontico’). - Contains the two works by the Italian physician and botanist Prosper Alpinus (1553–1617), whose work ‘Medicina Aegyptorum’ is regarded as a seminal text on Egyptian medicine. ‘His works enjoyed the highest acclaim amongst his contemporaries and went through numerous editions, even after his death.’ (Hirsch/Hüb. I, 101.). – Appended is the treatise on Indian medicine by Jacob Bondt, who was the first to regard tropical medicine as an independent branch of medical science: “Bontius was probably the first to regard tropical medicine as an independent branch of medical science. Includes the first modern descriptions of beriberi and cholera.” (Garrison/Morton 2263). – Title page bearing a handwritten ownership note by the well-known Giessen-based physician and geologist J. W. C. Baumer (1719–1788).
