Bosch 528. — First edition of this lavishly produced publication. - “The naval physician and botanist Heinrich Wawra accompanied Archduke Maximilian to Brazil. The accompanying gardener, Franz Maly, collected the plants. The processing of the findings was delayed because in 1864 Wawra accompanied Maximilian—now Emperor of Mexico—to his new empire. It was not until his return in 1865 that the work was completed; as he writes, Martius was of great assistance to him. Other contributors included August von Krempelhuber and Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach, who drew the plates together with Joseph Seboth.” (Bosch).
