Thunberg, C(arl) P(eter): Voyages au Japon, par le Cap de Bonne-Espérance, les îles de la Sonde, etc. Traduits, rédigés et augmentés par L. Langlès et revus par J. B. Lamarck. 4 Vol. Paris: B. Dandré, Garnery among others 1796. 19 x 13 cm. With a framed portrait frontispiece, a framed head vignette and 27 (5 folded) copper plates. Marbled leather with a red spine label and elaborate spine decoration

(Scuffed and bumped, with frequent missing sections at the head and tail; the reverse is partially flaked. Damp and age-stained in places; often with a glue shadow margin at the start, except on the half-title page and title page. In Vol. IV, plates 1 and 2 are printed from a single sheet and folded, which is why reference copies vary in their plate counts between 27 and 28 plates. One plate is too closely trimmed, resulting in loss of image.)
