Kainbacher 221. - The rescue mission for Emin Pasha, led by Stanley, first travelled up the Congo River and then crossed the Ituri rainforest to reach Pasha and his troops, who were besieged by Mahdi forces. Despite successfully reuniting the troops in 1888, they were forced to withdraw from Equatoria in 1889 following a series of setbacks.
