Atlas volumes documenting the outstanding French archaeological expedition to China led by the naval surgeon, ethnologist, archaeologist and writer Victor Segalen (1878–1919). With extensive photographic illustrations, the volumes document the archaeological monuments and works of art examined during the 1914 and 1917 expeditions, in particular the monumental sculpture and funerary monuments of ancient China. The plates provide a striking insight into the regions explored by Segalen, Gilbert de Voisins and Jean Lartigue, and into Chinese monumental art, much of which was still largely unexplored at the time. - Atlas, Volume I: Sculpture and Funerary Monuments (Provinces of Shaanxi and Shuozhou). - Atlas, Volume II: Funerary Monuments (Nanjing Region).
