Henze IV, 614. - First edition of the diaries of the sinologist Richthofen (1833–1905), in which the author describes his travels, geological surveys and geographical observations in China. Richthofen is regarded as the founder of modern geomorphology. His studies coined the term ‘Silk Road’. The former Richthofen Mountains in Central Asia on the edge of the Gobi Desert, now known as the Qilian Mountains, were named after him. - Includes a map of China showing Richthofen’s itinerary.
