Philippson’s five-volume account of his travels and research is one of the seminal geographical and regional studies of Asia Minor from the early 20th century. During his research expeditions, Alfred Philippson (1864–1953), Professor of Geography at the University of Bonn, combined detailed topographical, geological and cultural-geographical observations, thereby laying a foundation for our understanding of the landscapes of Western Asia Minor that remains important to this day. - Volume I: Western Mysia and the Pergamon region; Volume II: Ionia and western Lydia; Volume III: Eastern Mysia and the neighbouring parts of Phrygia and Bithynia; Volume IV: Eastern Lydia and south-western Phrygia; Volume V: Caria south of the Meander and western Lycia.
