A note inserted in the book identifies this copy as an ‘Early Copy for Review’. It includes a remark stating that the book should not be reviewed until after 21 January 1914. Mawson was Australia’s most important polar explorer, and his face therefore appeared on the first Australian 100-dollar note, issued between 1984 and 1996.
