Contains descriptions and illustrations of over 1,200 different coats of arms. The linguist and Japanologist Rudolf Lange (1850–1933) was the first and only holder of a chair in Japanese in the German-speaking world and taught at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Berlin. He drew the present work from the text ‘Hayabiki jōmon kan’, published by Mori Mototas’ke after 1668, following the restoration of the Empire.
