During his research expeditions through Brazil and Venezuela, the German anthropologist Theodor Koch-Grünberg (1872–1924) documented the myths and narrative traditions of the indigenous peoples in writing and through photography. He later published his observations in this five-volume work, the individual volumes of which deal, amongst other things, with indigenous languages and ethnography. His second scientific expedition to Brazil, described here, was undertaken on behalf of and with funding from the Baessler Institute in Berlin. – Rarely found in its entirety due to a change of publisher.
